Taco ’bout Safety Tuesday

What could be better than Tacos and Safety? Um…… nothing! They are my two favorite things. Did you know if you crunch up your hardshell tacos your are essentially eating a salad? Just a tip I thought I’d share. So have as many tacos as you want, it’s a salad. And safety. Well, you can never have too much safety. Is that even a thing?

I’ve had my concealed handgun permit for over 10 years now. Shortly after that, I thought about becoming an instructor. There aren’t very many female instructors out there. I told hubby my idea. But, if you know me, that really wasn’t the whole idea. I wanted to build a range and have a classroom and I’m kind of a go big or go home kind of girl…

Six years ago I got a wild hair and decided I was going to take the instructors course. By myself. We were preparing for our anniversary trip. Hubby wanted to get scuba certified. It just so happened that same weekend was the instructor course. So I signed up! What was I thinking? As I sat down in the classroom, I looked around to see a bunch of men. The teacher had us introduce ourselves and state why we wanted to be an instructor. Everyone was either law enforcement or ex-military. It came to my turn and I said, “My name is Kim Stevens. I am a stay at home mom and want to be an instructor so my friends aren’t afraid of guns.” Whew. I survived. After intros the instructor told us to find a partner and start preparing a lesson. What? Good grief. I was so nervous. So my partner and I got up and did our section we choose from the manual. I think everyone was a little surprised. Okay, I know they were surprised because they told me that I did much better than they had expected. I really enjoyed the class and learned tons. I waited anxiously for my test results. You have to score above 90% in order to pass……. And I did!

And then, my life was turned upside down. Literally and figuratively. I was t-boned by someone who ran a very very red light. I wouldn’t be able to shoot or teach for over a year………
