I guess the only good thing to come from my car accident is the desire to see the world. My husband served as a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints back in the early 90’s. He served his mission in Belgium. He has always wanted to go back and share his experiences and memories with me. I am so glad we got the opportunity to go! It was amazing.

Hopping on the next train to Antwerp
We felt like we might have been at the train station to Hogwarts….
Traveling can be exhausting. My kids did an awesome job of having a good attitude. Another seven hour flight and then we had to hop on the train in Brussels to get to Antwerp. We stayed in Antwerp because my hubby can still speak Dutch. Actually Flanderin, which is the dialect in this area. Our hotel was right across the street from the train station. Very convenient. We traveled by train everywhere we went. We visited Brugges and bought some beautiful lace. Much had changed in the 25+ years since my husband had been there, but much was still the same. The buildings were amazing. So much history, I wish I could remember all of the stories we heard from our guide, who my husband had met on his mission. It was so fun to meet the people I had heard stories about.

We had spent Christmas in Egypt, which was very different. So we were very excited to see all the different Christmas Markets in Belgium. It was so cool! Like, why don’t we have them here in America? There was a Santa singing while riding a bicycle. A giant Christmas tree that was actually a ride. Not too mention the Ferris Wheel and all of the twinkling lights. It was a magical place. I want to go back some day.

When traveling in Belgium you will want to definitely layer your clothing. It was rainy while we were there, and a bit chilly. We didn’t mind as it was just such a cool place to visit. So many castles and market squares. Did I mention the chocolate. Oh my goodness. I can’t even describe how wonderful it is. I snapped a pic of hubby at his favorite chocolate spot. Leoneda’s.
Like a kid in a candy store. The world’s best candy store. My favorite is a chocolate covered cherry. So he got me one. We all had a good laugh as we are walking and mom realizes…….. Don’t they put alcohol in their chocolate in foreign countries? Wow was my mouth burning. Good thing I only got one.

Seriously, we had some of the best food in Belgium. Our kids were eager to awake every morning, and head to the train station because we would stop at the waffle stand and get a fresh made Belgian Waffle. I am ruined for life. I cant’s eat waffles in America ever again. And the french fries… They are so good. The chocolate croissants. Oh and the frikandellen. It’s like a velvety sausage that is deep fried and taste so good.

Doesn’t it all look amazing? I’m so ready to go again!
