Gun safety at home

One question I get asked often is, “Aren’t you worried your kids will play with your gun?” The answer is always yes! Kids are naturally curious, even when they have been told over and over not to do or touch something.

One of the Safe Hearts books called, “Damon’s Dilemma” teaches gun safety.

Many people want to keep a firearm in their home in case of emergency, but don’t because they are worried their kids might find it. Most don’t understand how I can keep my pistol on my night stand. Very simple, I have a key pad lock on my door. My door always stays shut when I am not in my room.

There are many options for keeping your firearm locked up, but ready when seconds count. There are the large guns safes. In an emergency situation this is not the best option. An intruder will hear you trying to get into it. Most have a 9 digit key code to punch in. The smaller bio metric safe is a great option. Many of these can even be purchased on Amazon.

Many options available

As a gun owner it is my responsibility to always be aware of where my firearm is. Being respectful of others around me is important to me. Many are afraid of firearms. That is why I teach. Most of my students have never touched a firearm. They tell me they are scared of the noise, or just the thought that they hold the power to take someones life terrifies them. After spending time with them, they know whether or not they want to carry a firearm. I want them to be comfortable with their protection. A stun gun is another option. It is non-lethal and a good choice for someone not confident in using a firearm. I love the Striking Distance. It is perfect for the night stand.

Safety is so important when it comes to firearms. ALWAYS point it in a safe direction. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to destroy whatever is in front of you. ALWAYS keep it unloaded until ready to use. Remember you are the safety on any firearm. ‘Til next time…. Stay safe and sassy!
